Listing other valuable scholarship credentials, such as a high SAT score and a solid GPA, do not always personalize the scholarship application as the essay does. When written correctly, the scholarship essay appeals to the emotional psyche of the reader. To achieve this result, you need to write your scholarship essay clearly, concisely and correctly, and with subtle hints of your personality.

CREATING A STELLAR SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY

First, abolish the notion that only people with talent can write well. If a person can talk, he/she can write well. Because writing involves more thinking than regular talking, it is important to follow these guidelines during the writing process:

1) Read other scholarship essays.

Reading other winning scholarship essays is the best way to get a feel for what scholarship judges look for. It may also provide ideas during times of writer's block or mental stress. Be careful not to copy other people's words unless you properly quote them in your scholarship essay. This applies to direct quotes, indirect quotes, and paraphrased statements.

2) Use outlines, and brainstorm.

Outlines are a wonderful tool for a writer to gather his thoughts. A traditional outline consists of a Roman numeral identifying the main heading; a capital letter identifying a subheading; and numbers indicating topics under the subheading. You can denote further points related to these topics by using small letters. An informal outline works best for the scholarship essay... what matters is the writer knows what he wants to say before he actually starts saying it.

3) Research rules.

Some scholarship essays seem so easy... so why does a writer still encounter mental roadblocks when writing an essay? This is perfectly natural, even on topics that a writer feels he knows first-hand. To get the brain cells fired up and functioning, sometimes it's helpful to research topics directly and indirectly related to the main topic.

4) Write from the heart for emotional impact.

Don't try to sound like the latest best-selling author in your scholarship essay. This includes trying to sound "deep," (unless of course "deep" is your natural writing style), and littering the essay with big words. Scholarship judges can see through this, and you will turn them off if you try to sound like someone else.

5) Be creative and unique.

Don't be afraid to deviate from the "academic style" of the scholarship essay -- as long as creativity doesn't distract from the main theme, and you are using proper grammar. Remember, scholarship judges are human and they tend to notice essays that tug on their emotional strings in some way. The best scholarship essays usually contain anecdotes, emotional personal accounts and even dialogue. If the scholarship essay instructions allow for creative expression, go wild with it.

6) Use proper grammar, punctuation and style.

Scholarship judges will immediately disqualify scholarship essays with too many grammatical errors, even if the content is compelling. You must know the rules of English grammar, and you should know how to write formally. This means you know how to write a sentence with a traditional structure versus a "contemporary" one (the writer should opt for the former). For example, today's sentence structure makes it somewhat acceptable to use "And" or "But" at the beginning of a sentence, but you should avoid it when writing the scholarship essay. Many editors (especially editors in academia) still feel uncomfortable using a conjunction at the beginning of a sentence, so why even take the chance? A writer can play it safe when choosing to write traditionally.

7) Don't reinvent the wheel - use a standard essay format.

A basic essay format consists of: 1) a thesis statement; 2) three or four paragraphs expanding on points detailed in the thesis statement; and 3) a concluding paragraph. This traditional structure, although seen as generic by some college writers, works very well. Why? Because it allows you to clearly lay out your thoughts during the writing process and for the judges who are reading the essay.

8) Follow the scholarship essay's instructions.

It is important that your scholarship essay address the points asked for in the instructions. No matter how brilliant a particular piece is, if it goes off on a tangent discussing irrelevant topics, then you have not achieved the desired objective.

9) Get someone else to proofread your work.

It is very easy for writers to miss many mistakes, whether they are grammatical errors, typos or inconsistencies in the flow of their piece. It is important to have other sources proofread your material, such as friends, family, and other professors who have reviewed winning scholarship essays. Otherwise, use a popular grammar software, such as www.WhiteSmokeSoftware.com.

10) Don't discourage yourself if your scholarship essay is rejected.

Just because your scholarship essay didn't win doesn't mean it was bad. Scholarship judges are responsible for reading hundreds -- sometimes even thousands -- of scholarship essays. Deciding who will win from a pile of many good essays, can be very difficult. Sometimes judges base their final choice purely on emotion... the judges may see factors in an essay that remind them of their personal life. Either way, it is impossible to please everyone. You should apply to as many scholarships as possible.

As long as you follow these guidelines and produce a well-written scholarship essay, the power of numbers is on your side. Your excellent scholarship essay is bound to be noticed eventually.
About the Author:
Brian Scott is a contributing writer for http://www.LousyWriter.com, a free website on how to write better. Some experts estimate the number of available scholarships to be in the millions. Some students wonder why there are scholarships for particular a race/ethnicity. To answer that question briefly- one reason being that some students of these nationalities face various obstacles in terms of pursuing a higher Education. Whether it be a result of poverty, financial burdens or lack of information. These funds are set aside for these individuals so they too can achieve the goal of a higher education.

Some examples of organizations that provide these scholarships are:
Native American Scholarship Organizations

Cherokee Nation Education Corporation

American Indian College Fund

American Indian Graduate Center

American Indian Science and Engineering Society

American University Washington Semester Program

Association on American Indian Affairs

Association of American Indian Physicians

Catching the Dream

Cherokee Nation Higher Education Services

The Discover Card Tribute Award Scholarship

Financial Aid for Studies-Native American Education Grant

Indian Health Service Scholarship Program

Indian Resource Development

Intertribal Timber Council

The Lagrant Foundation

Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program

Native American Finance Officers Association

Office of Indian Education

SACNAS (Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science)

United South & Eastern Tribes Scholarship Fund

Scholarship Organizations for African American

United Negro College Fund

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People

African American Linquist

African American Scholarship Fund

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

BET

Sallie Mae Fund Scholarship Programs

Black College Dollars

Latin American Scholarship Organizations

Hispanic College Fund HCF

Hispanic Scholarship Fund HSF

Sallie Mae Fund First in My Family Scholarship Program

NASA Motivating Undergraduate in Science and Technology

The above are organizations that provide scholarships and financial aid to the mentioned groups. Please not if you are of any of the above nationalities, you are not just limited to the scholarships provided by those organizations. There are millions of other scholarships that you can apply for and meet the criteria for. One more thing that should be noted is that some of these scholarships provided by these organizations are "open to anyone" some of them don't require you be a specific ethnicity. So use all of the available scholarship resources including scholarship searches, books and additional websites. And don't eliminate a scholarship from your list until you have thoroughly read the criteria.
About the Author:

As an educator I feel obligated to provide free scholarship information to those who want to further their education. http://www.scholarshipsupport.com/unclaimed-scholarships

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Scholarships for Students of Different Cultures
.

Education - Scholarships For Black Students

Author: Paul Hata

He was the designated National Spokesman for Nation of Islam, a religious and socio-political organization founded in the United States which is aimed to resurrect the mental, social, spiritual, and economic condition of black men and women in the country as well as on other parts of the world. He is Malcolm X.

He is Martin Luther King, Jr.
He was the famous leader of the American civil right movement and won the Nobel Peace Prize because of his promotion of peace and equal treatment of different races throughout the world.

He is Muhammad Ali, or Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr.
He is the three-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and one of the best pound-for-pound boxers ever existed, which made his way towards the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Each of them has their own world to explore and own business to attend. But there is one thing that binds them as one. All of them are African-Americans, or also known as Black Americans.

A Black American is considered to be one of the members of an ethnic group in the United States, whose ancestors are traced its roots predominantly in Africa. Majority of them are descendants of African slaves who were transported from Central Africa through the Middle Passage to North America and the Caribbean during the trans-Atlantic slave trade (1609-1807). Others are immigrants from European and African nations who are classified by the United States census as African-American demographically instead of socially.

Their population is estimated to be at 40 million and they are predominantly Christians and Muslims. Furthermore, due to hundreds of events that happened within the history of the United States.

Black Americans rose from the ethnic ranks and proved themselves to be called a majority class instead of being in the ethnic class. They have triumphed, producing Black American personalities who succeeded in their respective field of endeavors. And all black college students want to succeed in reaching their respective dreams.

Despite of the popularity of various Black American personalities, poverty is still within the ranks of several Black American families. They experience difficulties in sending their children to college, particularly in exclusive universities such as Harvard and Yale. They can withstand the discrimination that is still present despite of everything that has happened, yet poverty is what they cannot withstand anymore.

Is there any hope for a black student to study in college?
Yes, there is. And it is through getting a black college scholarship.

There are hundreds of scholarships available that are not just open to White Americans, but are also intended for Black American students. There you have the scholarships for minority students, college scholarships provided by Black American and African organizations (whether civic or religious), and government-sponsored scholarships for black students.
The United States Constitution clearly states that there should be no discrimination in terms of getting a solid and well-provided education to its citizens. Whether you are a white or a black, you are entitled to receive a high quality of education in the country.
With these scholarships for aspiring black college students, they will be able to fulfill their dreams of becoming one of the successful personalities, just like Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, and Muhammad Ali, who have already left a mark in their respective fields of endeavor. Poverty is just a minor obstacle - there is hope on anything, including for a black student who want to take a step higher and get himself to college.
About the Author:

1000s of Education,Training,Scholarship & Children Services.Click Here -
World Education Pages,
World Training Pages,
World Scholarship Pages and
World Children Pages

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Education - Scholarships For Black Students

.

Scholarships For College Freshmen - College Freshman Can Benefit From These Tips

Author: Jazmine Young

As an incoming freshman you should be happy about being able to get through those long and demanding four years of high school and still be able to keep your head on track with your goals such as accomplishing your dream of attaining a college degree. BEWARE! It might be scholarship scam’s trap. In general, if you have to pay money to get money, it's probably a scam.

Every year thousand of students and parents are defrauded by scholarship scams. And many of them even unaware that they had dropped into the trap of scholarship scams, the victims usually write off the money paid up front to the scams as thinking they just simply didn’t win the scholarship.

Let review some of common scholarship scams so that your will be alerted and precaution about the suspicious scholarship offers.

Common Scholarship Scams

According to the Federal Trade Commission's Scholarship Scams, if you receive an offer that uses one of these tactics, be suspicious:

The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back
Beware of scholarship-finding services that guarantee you will win a scholarship or your money will be refunded. If it is a scam, you will find it extremely difficult to qualify for refund, because this refund guaranteed often have terms & condition attached. Get and review refund policies before you pay.

Ask for your credit card or bank account to hold the winning scholarship for you
If you receive phone call saying that you have won a scholarship and they need your credit card or bank account in order to hold the winning scholarship for you. Never! Never give out any credit card or bank account without getting information or confirmation in writing first. It might be a set-up for an unauthorized withdrawal from your account.

A super low interest rate loan that need advance fee
This scam will offer you an unusual low interest rate loan but they will ask you to pay for a fee during the loan application submission. And when you pay for it, the promised loan never materializes. Be aware, real education loan usually deduce the fees from the disbursement check. It never required you to pay for a fee when you submit an application. If the loan is not issued by a bank or other recognized lender, it is probably a scam. Check the offer with your local bank’s manager before you pay..

You can’t get this scholarship information from anywhere else
There are many scholarship lists available for public. A real scholarship is normally announced to public and you can get this information easily from college and the recognized financial aid agencies. Start your own researching from those locations before you pay for somebody to do the work for you.

You won a scholarship prize!
The scam will inform you that you have won a college scholarship worth a few thousands of dollars but you will be asked to pay for a “redemption” fee or taxes before they can release your prize. If you receive this good news but you don’t remember entering any scholarship contest, be suspicious. Even If you have entered the contest, check and get the winning confirmation letter first before any payment being made. There are scams use the real scholarship contest to cheat for money, they know many people are enrolled for the contest and by chance you are in the list.

Summary
The above are just some commons in scholarship scams. There are still many other scholarship scams around. Always be precaution in any scholarship offer to you and always check for confirmation before any money pay out. The basic guideline is "if you have to pay money to get money, it's probably a scam".

About the Author
http://www.studykiosk.com/ - Listing the best Distance Learning Programs available to date, It explains the many ins and outs of attending a "Virtual Classroom" to help you succeed in realizing your educational goals from self-improvement, to certification, to earning an online degree.

Source: Free Articles

.

Coca Cola Scholarship: Gateway for a Better Future

Autor: asupport

One of the greatest treasures to have in life is education and correct learning. Right now there are hundreds of nursing scholarships that are available to students interested in pursuing nursing.

A trend that has been advancing in the scholarship world is that nursing is now being considered an acceptable criteria for hundreds of medical related scholarships. As you know, many scholarships have strict criteria that the student must meet in order to submit an application for the scholarship. As demand rises, scholarships start to broaden their criteria. This is what is happening for nursing scholarships and grants.

What can nursing scholarships be used for?

As with most scholarships, they can be used for any education related expenses. This includes tuition, room and board, food, books, equipment, and much more.

The purpose of a scholarship is meant to help the student with financial aid so that he/she can afford the things necessary to achieve success with their nursing education and their nursing career. Some scholarships stipulate that the money must be used for specific purposes, but others allow the student to decide what the money is used for.

How do I find nursing scholarships?

The most efficient way of finding scholarships is to have the ability to filter scholarship results based on criteria that you meet. If you are attending a 4 year university full-time with a grade point average of 3.4, an ACT score of 26, and a nursing major, you should be able to see which scholarships you qualify for, rather than having to search for them.

By using our nursing scholarships search, you can see all of the nursing scholarships and filter them by grade point average, education level, enrollment, state of residency, and more.

This allows you to quickly find nursing scholarships that you qualify for.

You can also use Google to search for nursing scholarships. The problem with this is that it forces you to look at scholarships on an individual basis. Not only is this time consuming but it is extremely inefficient. Because scholarships have strict criteria, you most likely will not qualify for the majority of nursing scholarships you find.

This is why having the ability to narrow a scholarship database down by criteria that you meet as an individual can save you a lot of time.

About The Author
College Matching Service provides hundreds of education articles, scholarships, and over 8,000 college listings.

The author invites you to visit:
http://www.collegematchingservice.com

Article Source:
http://www.articlecity.com/articles/education/article_1790.shtml

.

Education in USA – a country of opportunities

Author: Jharna Bhatnagar

The best destination for a student to go for his higher education would be USA, due to its rich heritage, developed infrastructure and wide range of options, not to forget the degree that is recognized all over the globe. What more could a student ask for. USA surely is a land of opportunities; it has so much to offer that a student would be lucky and privileged to get admission in one of the USA universities.

Whether it’s a small university in a small town or a big university in the main city you are looking for, USA has it all. It has a plethora of not just subjects and courses but also well reputed universities. Every year, thousands of students try and go to USA for higher studies. It has options suiting to every one’s needs and preferences, no wonder it lures students from different parts of world setting them in the top of the careers with their advanced technology and modern teaching methods, which is the reason why it isn’t an easy job to get into a good USA university. It needs lot of hard work and preparation to get admission to study in USA. Three main requisites to get admission are:

Good grades/marks.

Strong financial support.

Strong hold on the English language and communication.

As per stats, USA is known to absorb the largest number of students from all over the globe. In 2007, it enrolled more then 6 lakh students at international level in its universities, out of which more then 80 thousand were Indians. The count is steadily rising every year.

Education system – The education system in USA is very different from that prevailing in India. It’s an informal system where the students’ view is equally taken into account. The students are encouraged to openly discuss their point and open discussions are held. Though it’s not only studies all the time, as fun and parties are equally a part of every campus environment but it’s a logical balance of both.

Standard tests – Every university in USA follows one or the other standard tests that prevail. To get into a university in USA, one needs to score well in any one or more of the following tests:

GMAT – Graduate Management Admission Test.

SAT – Scholastic Aptitude Test.

GRE – Graduate Record Examination.

TOEFL (for non Americans) – test Of English As Foreign Language

Most of these tests are designed to evaluate the skills and aptitude of a student rather than their depth of knowledge.

Financial aid - To support education financially, there are three main ways to do so. One is funding via university, second is funding via private source and third is funding via government sources. This financial help works on two grounds. Firstly, it is on the basis of your need that is they evaluate your yearly income and your paying capacity and then decide the amount. Secondly, it is on the merit basis. It is rewarded as a scholarship to the student based upon his academic performance and scores. Besides this, many students opt to earn while they study there. It’s a largely followed tradition for migrating students.

USA is a good option for a student to go for his/her higher education courses. To get admission, you should apply personally to each university or sit for the common test to admission. More information regarding the colleges and universities in USA can be found on the internet, education sites, education forums etc.
About the Author:

Jharna Bhatnagar writes on behalf of Shiksha.com. The reality is that many schools or training institutions don't want to give mothers grants or scholarships. Perhaps, they doubt the sincerity of our higher education pursuits. It may be that they don't think we will finish what we start.

But whatever their reasoning is, it is not fair to those moms who want to improve their chances in life and that of their children. No matter what your situation, if you have children, work, and want to get a degree, you should have that opportunity.

There are five types of scholarships that may be especially suited for moms.

1. Need

A need-based scholarship is designed for those who need help with their living expenses as well as tuition and other college fees.

2. Merit

A merit scholarship will help those who have a passion or who are good in a specific area.

3. Institutional

Institutional scholarships are offered by specific schools and colleges.

4. Sociology

If you are of a certain race, ethnic group, religion for example, you may qualify for a scholarship that is designed for people in your category. This group is where you may find the opportunities for moms, working moms or some other type of demographic.

5. General

If you have a parent that works for a designated company or are an employee of a company that offers financial assistance, you may receive help that way for your education.

From all of the ways to pick, the sociology category may be the best place to start for a mom who wants to get a degree. Don't wait any longer. Look into all of your opportunities and get going. You will be done before you know it and have the chance for that better job.

Article Source:
http://www.articlecity.com/articles/education/article_1828.shtml

.

Grants and Scholarships from Obama's "Moms Return to School" Program

by: Lindsy Emery

President Barack Obama's administration is committed to helping moms return to school. You may not be aware of this 'Moms Return to School' push, but it may just be what you are looking for to help you finish up that college degree.

Even though many people are being laid-off at the present, the economy will rebound. When this happens you want to be prepared to seek a better job. What better way to make this happen than to be able to write college graduate on your application?

Specifically designed for low-income students, the Federal Pell Grant is now offering up to $5,100.00 in financial aid. For low-income single moms, this is a great way to begin your college financing. Some say that this may even increase in the near future.

Once you have chosen the college and program that you desire, simply fill out a form called the FAFSA and submit it. It won't take long to find out if you have been awarded the money. If the process seems confusing, schools have specific offices that can help you.

There is also a tax advantage for enrolling in school. Through the American Opportunity Tax Credit, you can deduct the first $4,000.00 of your education. Now, that is another great bonus!

If you would prefer to do your learning and studying online, all of this money can be used for many of the online degree schools. The advantage to this type of program is that you will still be there to care for your children and you can study when you are able.

There are many other opportunities available to moms who want to study. Do a search and find as many as you can. Before you know it, you will be on the path to higher learning.

About The Author
Did you know you can get a $10,000 scholarship for Moms just for registering? A college degree can help most everyone reach the financial goals that they have set. For moms, this is especially good news because often times they have a harder time financing their education. Women have the tough job of balancing work and children. If you are trying to finish your degree, it can just seem impossible for everything to work together.

Obama has focused some free money to provide the assistance that many women need to get started on the road back to school and financial gain. These programs are amazing in that they can help to eliminate one of those worries which are the financial aspect of higher education.

A big plus is that the money received from these grant and scholarship programs does not ever need to be repaid. It can be used in many ways as well. Perhaps you need a new computer, books, or work done on your car so you can get to and from school. Those are ways in which you can spend the money you receive.

Many of these scholarships award up to $10,000.00 which goes a long way towards footing the bill of one year of college.

Another big advantage to going to school now is that there are any number of online programs that will enable you to secure your degree without ever having to leave your home. How many universities did you apply to?
This is a very basic question, but linked to this is the second question that is shot at you.
2. How many admits or rejections you have received?
As explained in the above question, both of these are interlinked. Now if you applied to 4 were accepted in 1 and got 3 rejects. You don’t have to be Mr. TRUTH. So put it as applied to 4, got 1, awaiting 2, 1 reject or applied to 4, got 1, awaiting 3. (They will have the record of your admits and not of your rejections). But then state as this was supposed to be your first choice anyhow, so even if you would have had the admit letters from any of the other 3, you would certainly have gone for this one.

3. What is the purpose of your trip?
The purpose of my trip is to do my MS in ___________ (E.g.: CS/Telecommunications/EE...whatever or PhD in _____)
4. What is your GRE/TOEFL score?
Always try to speak out the better score first. Like if you have a good TOEFL score, say your TOEFL first and then GRE. Usually people think, they can go and lead them by answering long and sweet, like if asked for scores, the long answer might be : "Sir, I took my Computer based TOEFL and scored 270 at it, while I took the GRE and scored 800 in Quantitative, 710 in Analytical and 430 in Verbal". Well this can heat up the officer. So keep it short. Try always to answer in short and to the point.
5. WHAT TO SAY FOR THE LOW GRE AND TOEFL?
Variety of things makes up the final decision. Always accept your mistakes and explain what exactly went wrong in the examination.

Questions were tough.

Time was not sufficient.

Had a bad day though prepared well.

Written the exam in the middle of the project work or the B Tech examinations.

You think your score is average and on the basis of that the university has given you the admission.

I answered the first few questions incorrectly and I couldn’t improve my score even after performing well later.

You can show that the other sections are stressed upon by universities while selection for admission. (like good quant and low verbal)

If you have a low VERBAL score, but a good TOEFL score, you can always say that "Please look at my TOEFL score Sir, I have done well at that."

6. Which was your undergraduate college?
My undergraduate college was _____________
7. What was your bachelor's degree in?
My Bachelors degree is in ________________
8. What are your grades like?
Spell it out as it has been at your university. Say "Sir, We have a percentage system, and i scored xx% overall" IF your final year marks excel the other semester marks, spell that one out, coz usually in some universities, they look at the final year marks to grade the student in the Certificate.
9. Which university are you planning to go to?
Name the university you want the visa for. (The University of your Choice)

FINANCIAL QUESTIONS:

10. Who is planning to sponsor you?
As mentioned in your I-20. If you have a scholarship, say that. Else in case the I-20 says "Family funds" say that, and you may add that sir, my father and my mother are supporting me for my higher education. If your relatives are also sponsoring you then do mention about them as well.
11. Your passbooks show that a large amount of money has recently been deposited. How would you explain that?
If you have borrowed the money here is what you could do Its quite likely that in the past you may have received huge sums of money like selling of some property, retirement of parents etc so u could say something like) In year X we had received Rs. XXX and instead of depositing the amount in a bank at a low interest rate, we invested it in other sources which gave us high interest rates or we gave it to our needy friends. Now we have taken this money back to finance my education. (Of course it’s really dicey to answer this question, but if you are confident you shouldn’t have a problem. If you have some proof of receiving a huge sum of money some years back, make sure you carry it) You can also say that you had private Fixed deposits i.e you invested in private firms coz they provide higher interest rates (say out figures like 16% per annum as compared to the mere 9% of banks. You can show this receipt and say that now you en-cashed that amount, coz you needed it for your educational purposes.
12. What is your father's annual income?
This question often decides your ability to pay for your expenses. They think that money can be put into banks, but annual income is a proof which they heavily rely upon to decide the student's parent’s capability to spend for his educational expenses.
a) What is your father's annual income?
Explain as per the CA report and the IT returns.
b) What is your family's annual income?
The moment the words 'Annual Income" creeps in, state your complete family annual income, i.e. if your mother is also an earning member, if you have agricultural income, if you have rental income plus the interests and dividends...State all of them together. Dont commit the blunder of stating just your father's income. Many a times it hampers your chances. If it seems low to them. Obviously a sum of mother's income, your father's income, agricultural (if u have), rental will be more than a single one. And if they ask for the IT returns, hand over both of your parent's return statements, plus the agricultural papers plus the rental receipt (duplicate) at a time. And if he/she just argues (usually they don’t) that you were asked about your father's income. Then say" Sir, MY family is sponsoring me. Along with my father my mother is also an earning member and an income tax payee. Family funds is what the I-20 states, and so my family including my father and mother (opt brother, if u have one earning) are sponsoring me and here are their statements and proofs of other modes of income.
13. I have been offered a partial scholarship. What financial documents should I show?
Amount mentioned in the I-20 form for 1 year MINUS the scholarship amount should be shown in the form of financial documents. You can show funding for the subsequent year in the form of property or liquid assets. You can also show in written form if the university has intention to give aid for the next year also.
14. Can I show an educational loan as my source of funding?
Yes. You can do so. But if doesn't cover the entire 1 year amount mentioned in the I-20 form then you have to show proof of funding for the remaining amount.

GENERAL QUESTIONS:

15. Why do you plan to do MS?
Say that you felt that higher qualifications give a better place, a better standard in today's competitive world. You felt that you have a good know-how of your field, but a bit more technical knowledge in "the field you are going for MS in" will serve you greatly, when you come back here and join the industry of your choice. You will find more opportunities, higher pay and also the growth prospects are much higher compared to the fresh graduates.
16. Why do you wish to study in the US and not in India?

The courses in the field I am interested in are not being offered or very few institutions offer such courses.

In addition to that the research going on is something I would like to be associated with. (Speak about the facilities as well). Talk about a few researches being conducted in that field. Technical words work out when other things don’t.

Speak about the standard and quality of education and the environment and ambiance you find.

To become more ready for the ever-increasingly globalize Business World.

Make sure you speak about the scholarships and the assistantships you find in United States. (US is the only country provides 100% waivers and assistantships to the international students.

Experience first hand different cultures and customs, increase personal confidence pride-in-self by surviving in a different environment. Become more independent. Improve communication skills.

Learning abroad will set you apart from other job seekers in a very competitive job market. You will highlight your experience abroad in job interviews and on your resume.

Learning abroad can help you develop new skills, more independence and self-confidence. You'll return with new skills.

Studying overseas helps you see the world from a completely new perspective. The simplest things take on a new meaning when you are abroad.

Education abroad introduces you to a new culture, a new way of life. you'll learn to recognize and appreciate how culture determines values and behaviors.

A year or so abroad gives you the opportunity to participate in an international internship, Optional practical training opportunities are given to students and are allowed to do live projects in the companies an impressive asset in today's global marketplace.

17. Why did u select this University?
This question can be best answered when you do a bit of homework about you university. Browse the Webpage of the University, visit the pages of the professors, and go through their projects. Now remember some of the key words, like:

The project a professor X is working on. Mention something about the project if the officer is listening and is giving you time to explain. When you do such things, they think that you are pretty serious about your studies and are really into it.

Mention about the rank of the university, the student to faculty ratio.

Explain in detail the course curriculum and the concentration that you would take and how good the university is in teaching that particular course.

Talk about the on going research or project carried by the students or the professors of that university. (You can say all these stuff such as rank and all, but you have to state what interested you and it should be something about research or academics. You can also show letters of correspondence with your University professors).

Explain about the future plans that you have and how this course is going to help you in achieving those goals. (Eg: Besides technical knowledge, this course also enhances the managerial skills which are the demand of the present-day telecom industry. So while the professors from Computer and Electrical department will be teaching me Signal Processing, Encoding, Communication techniques, networking. At the same time the experts from School of Public Affairs will be imparting me knowledge of Present day competition in Telecom industry, staff management and resource management.)”

18. Does any of your relative stay in the US?
The answers to this vary from person to person. The two basic replies being: Either "YES" or "NO". But I believe that you be truthful at this instance. I have seen many people who have been true and were not affected by that. If your uncle or cousin or distant aunt stays there, you don’t have to say "YES" coz that doesn’t matter. All that matters is your immediate relatives. I.e. own brother, sister, father or mother. They evaluate you on the basis of your merits and not by what the person staying abroad is going to do for you.
19. What are you plans after Graduation?
Be really well prepared for this question. This answer is not fool proof, but it’s you who can make it seem so. The basic things are:

Your field is what you will pursue Your field is on a roll in INDIA Your field has great opportunities You get those opportunities even now but you get better opportunities once you do your MS

Show foreign companies coming to INDIA investing in your field State some technical words expressing the advancements in your field make it seem, this field won’t go ahead without guys like you.

Various US companies like _____, ________, ____________, are investing huge amounts of research funds and are looking forward to launch advanced Telecommunication methods in INDIA. Besides them, various Indian Telecom Giants like RELIANCE TELECOM, Bharti Telecom, and VSNL are also investing in behemoth amounts into this arena.

I believe that better technical knowledge will help me to achieve greater heights in this field, having deepened my technical knowledge after completing my higher studies.

I have seen that there is a dearth of persons with greater technical know-how in this field, and whosoever has it will be benefited highly. So I wish to complete my MS and strengthen my technical know-how and grasp the opportunity"

20. Why are you changing your stream?
This generally occurs coz people having done their BE in one stream would mostly opt for Computers. You can say either of the points:

During my third semester, when I was introduced to programming languages, I had a great exposure to computers. I gradually developed a liking for it and wished to deepen my knowledge in it.

I mastered a number of languages on my own, and am also into Web Designing and software debugging (push in technical words).

I always had it in my mind, that once I strengthen myself in my field, I will go on to enhance my skills in the field of Computers. There were a vast number of options available, viz. CS, CN, CE but I chose CS as I had esteem interest in Software and its working always try to show that you have an interest for that subject.

21. You look like potential immigrants OR I don’t think you will come back to India?
This is a real tricky question. Many get blue when they hear this and lose their senses as how to tackle this question. Stay calm and think what all you can say like: always answer in relation to your future plans and the opportunities that you will get after you return back to India.

"I am from a very well-to do family and money is not at all essential for me. I stand to inherit a lot from my parents (say this if u have lots of property) so staying and working in the US is not a criteria at all. The only thing I lack is this Masters (or whatever degree) which will make me a better software professional. As far as opportunity is concerned, because of the recession most of the US Companies are turning to the Indian companies for their software solutions. Most of the Indian companies have tie-ups with the US Companies (give some examples). So I am certain that with my degree I will get an equivalent opportunity and pay packet in India.

22. On what basis is the visa given?
The 3 main things that they look for now is:

Whether u have the capacity to complete your degree

Whether you have enough money to sponsor your education.

You should not be a potential immigrant and explains that you would return back to India upon completion of your studies.

About the Author:

Impel Overseas Consultants one of the fast growing global education consultancy that provides all the information about educational, career and migration Opportunities for students willing to study and relocate to USA, UK and Australia.

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Information about F1 Student Visa to USA

.

Obama's Scholarship Program Aimed at Mothers - Free Scholarships Just for Moms

by: Lindsy Emery

You may have a deep desire to finish or begin your college degree; however, finances have prevented you from fulfilling that dream. If this sounds like you, then you are in luck. President Obama also has that desire. He would like to see all women have the opportunity to begin or return to college. To make this dream come true, he has instituted a program that offers up $10,000.00 scholarships for moms.

Obama knows that often money is the only obstacle that prevents many women from pursuing their degrees. Traditionally, women find it easier to receive the help from government grant or scholarship programs and now is the time to benefit from all of the programs and get started.

Single moms have the ability now to apply for a vast number of scholarships. You can use these to pay for direct college fees or other expenses such as daycare while you are in class. USA universities stress on research work and academic studies equally. That’s why students get scholarships while doing research work. Hence American education is considered best today with students from various countries studying there. In that also, the percentage of Indian students is far higher. This is coupled with the easy availability of loans from Indian banks thus enabling the middle class to dream of studying in USA.

2. When you approach any counselor who is into sending students abroad, be sure to ask the following things : Which field to study ? Which university to select ? How to raise funds, get scholarships and financial issues ? Guidance for VISA . Ensure that these things are properly addressed by the counselor.

3. If you don’t get proper guidance, then you can be playing with your career. Here, parents should be more cautious and alert. It is very important to understand that two types of counselors exist. First type are the one who act as commission agents for certain universities and send students to those universities only. Second type are the ones who donot act as commission agents and send students to universities solely on their merit. Since the First type counselors get commission from universities, they do not charge the students. But before approaching such counselors, parents and students must ensure whether the university and course offered fits his/her choice.

4. Foreign education builds students career but also involves investment from parents. So it was very necessary to get proper guidance. Think wisely before taking any decisions while choosing your counselor.

Consider the following factors for selection of your counselor :

- Experience of counselor in the field

- If the organization is certified or registered.

About the Author:

Reach us at http://www.gurukulonweb.com/ouroffices.html to know us more and help you to shape your academic career......

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - GOING USA FOR STUDIES

.

College Scholarships For Women Over 25

Author: Mark B. Allen

Most college scholarships are aimed at people who are entering into college. While this is great for them, what about those women like you who were not so fortunate to have been able to attend college right out of high school? Fortunately, you can still get a scholarship (undergraduate and graduate levels) - even if you are a woman over 25. Many are still available and they are even looking for women just like you. Here is what you need to know about scholarships for women over 25.

There Are Many Awards Available

Many agencies and associations have college scholarships just for women who are over 25. This means that you can proceed to get the college degree at any level and in the field of your choice. Education scholarships are also available at many colleges, and some specify that you must be a woman that is 25 or older.

Scholarships Are Available for Many Fields

Just about every career field imaginable (and more) has some kind of scholarship to further some students' education in that field. This means that if you look around, you can find some that you can apply for.

Professional Scholarships

Professional scholarship providers are looking for women over 25 who are seeking to enter into the professional fields. One such college scholarship grantor is the Business and Professional Women / USA agency. Probably already having completed an undergraduate degree, there is award money ready to provide students with free college money. In many cases, the degree being pursued could be either a graduate or an undergraduate. Financial need may have to be established in order to qualify for some of them.

Graduate Scholarships

There are many fellowships and scholarships available from the best agencies in the United States. This includes the scientific, political, medical, law, computer fields and more. Agencies such as AT&T Labs, Bell Labs, the Center for Women in Government, University at Albany, Georgetown University Law Center, L'oreal Women in Science Program, the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and many more, all offer scholarships for women.

Scholarships May Help You Succeed, Too

College scholarships for women are often tied in to other agendas. Since the provider often wants a greater number of women in higher places of business and other fields, there may also be a support system that may come with the scholarship to help you succeed once you graduate. This is certainly worth looking into if you want both the education and help getting your career path established.

Special College Scholarships

When you want to get a college degree in a technical field, especially computers, you have several options. Of course, you don't want to forget about the largest search engine company that there is - Google. Google offers the Anita Borg Scholarship for those going into computer science or computer engineering. Separate scholarships from Google are also available for people in Australia and in Europe.

Older Than 35?

If you are older than 35, then there are other special scholarships for you. Associations exist that provide scholarships that are very interested in seeing you return to school and work toward furthering your education. One such place, if you are pursuing a technical degree, is the Brookhaven National Laboratory. This one is especially designed for women who have had some time lapse since they were in school last.

Another college scholarship that you can apply for if you are over 40 is the AARP Foundation scholarship. The AARP awards scholarships to women who are seeking to retrain or are needing training to be able to provide support for their families. Financial need will have to be established and they only accept applicants with limited income.

If you have been trying to finish your undergraduate college education, but have been unable to do so, here is a scholarship just for you. The Talbot's Women's Scholarship Fund is available for women who are determined to finish their 4-year degree.

Many other scholarships and college grants are available to help you get the degree you are pursuing. You should apply for as many scholarships as you can to keep your costs low and be able to graduate with as little debt as possible hanging over your head. Research will be needed to learn about many more scholarships that are available - but they are out there - waiting for some woman like you to claim them.
About the Author:
As tuition rises more people need more money to attend college. After all, you want to be sure you are eligible before you apply for scholarships. If you are not, you are wasting your time, as well as the time of the business or individual offering the scholarship.

In addition to making sure you are eligible before you apply for scholarships, understanding the requirements also helps guide you through the application process. Failure to follow the application requirements correctly when you apply for scholarships will almost certainly result in denial of the scholarship. This can include failure to include a specific form or even filling out the forms with the wrong ink color. Therefore, you absolutely must read all of the requirements and guidelines when you apply for scholarships. If you do not, all of the work you put into the scholarships will be wasted because your application will not even be considered.

If you have heard about a particular scholarship and you are not sure of the requirements, it is perfectly acceptable to write to the company or individual to request an application packet. Even if you do have application guidelines, be sure they are the most current versions before you apply for scholarships. Scholarship guidelines routinely change from year to year.

After you apply for scholarships, be certain to follow up with a telephone call. At the very minimum, you should call to make sure the application has been received. This is a time consuming part of the application process, but well worth the effort. The companies or individuals offering the scholarships most likely have dozens or even hundreds of applications to sort through. Making a follow up phone call is one way to make sure your name is remembered. Therefore, making sure the applications have been received is an essential step when you apply for scholarships.

If a particular post-secondary institution has already accepted you as a student, you might also apply for scholarships offered through the college or university. To learn about possible scholarship opportunities, contact the financial aid office of the institution. Once again, be certain to follow the guidelines exactly as they are described in the scholarship packet and personally check up on the scholarship application if possible.

Both a fellowship and a scholarship are considered grants, and sometimes the terms may be used interchangeably. Most fellowships are also scholarships, but scholarships may not be fellowships. Some differences exist between a fellowship and a scholarship, but these can be variable and depend upon the grant-giving organization.

A fellowship and a scholarship are usually differentiated because scholarships tend to be given to undergraduate college students, primarily for the purpose of general education expenses. They may be limited as to the type of major a student has, but most are more general and award gifts of money for education based on superior school performance. Some also take into account need, or may require specific skills. The Miss USA pageant and Miss America pageant are both scholarship programs. Women who win these pageants receive money to continue their education at the undergraduate or graduate level.

In many cases, you don’t need to get into a swimsuit in order to win a scholarship. Most are based on application only, and any qualifications that make you particularly eligible to receive the scholarship. There are many peculiar conditions which may make you eligible for a scholarship: your last name, your status as a single parent, your possessing a disabling condition, or your specific research goals as a student. More general scholarships given by countries and states may be given to students who will attend school full time, have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least a B average, and who can demonstrate financial need.

One difference between a fellowship and a scholarship is that most fellowships are not based on need. They are usually based on skill, GPA, and qualifications to work in a certain field. Another distinction between a fellowship and a scholarship, is that most fellowships are payment for some type of work, such as teaching at the college level, while obtaining a master’s degree or Ph.D, or doing extra training in a hospital to earn board certification as a specialist in a certain field of medicine after an M.D. has been earned. Fellowships tend to pay for internships or fieldwork, so that students, usually at the graduate level, can enhance their training in their field of interest.

There are some paid internships available to students at the undergraduate level. These may qualify as both a fellowship and a scholarship, or they may simply be referred to as scholarships. Many of the country’s top museums offer fellowship and intern opportunities to students at the undergraduate level, usually in their junior or senior year of college.

The fellowship further implies a limited timeline and a stated period of months in which work or internships will be completed and people will be paid. The main difference here between a fellowship and a scholarship is that most scholarships last for at least a semester in school, though some may be given more generally to pay for school expenses. Fellowships can last for a few days, a few weeks, a couple of months, a year, or a couple of years depending upon the scope of the work involved, and they normally pay in increments, by monthly stipend, instead of awarding the total amount of money at one time.

How to Apply for a Scholarship-simple tips

Finding a Scholarship

First most important thing is that you should know what kinds of scholarships and jobs around. Because if you don’t know about the scholarships then how will you apply? Therefore, make a good collection of scholarships websites. Some are top websites are listed here.

www.metroscholarships.page.tl

Application Tips

First impression is the last Impression:

Always make a nice, clean and organised application folder. It will give employers the impression that you an organised person.

Apply in First Round:

Always apply well before the application deadline. Most of the employers do their research and make their minds before calling someone for interview. Therefore give them plenty of time.

Check the Eligibilities:

There is no question of applying for a position if you are not eligible.

Arrange all documents in order:

If sending printed application, then arrange your documents in line as described in application form.

If sending online then convert all your documents in to PDF formats.

list can be as follows:

Cover letter
CV
BSc. And MSc. Transcripts
GRE/TOEFL scores
Scholarship forms
Essays or SOP
Letters of recommendation
Others requested by the employer

Letters of recommendations should be sealed and signed by your referees

Read your application carefully:

Always read your application carefully or ask someone to read and comment on it.

Make sure your application is complete:

Sending incomplete application will be disastrous. Always make sure that your application is complete.

Sending application:

Always use secured postal services where you can track your application and make sure your application has been received.

Now you have applied. What to do now?

Simply wait, but don’t stop here, because you never know whats going to happen with your application. A full ride gives the student the ability to pursue a college degree without worry or concern about how to pay for it. They are hard to find and typically have stringent requirements, but if you are lucky enough to qualify, pursue a full ride very hard.

A full ride scholarship is typically offered by the school, or at least controlled by the school. They cover full tuition and fees, but may not cover room and board. Most have some academic requirement, so the applicant will need to maintain a good GPA in order to keep the scholarship.

Full ride scholarships are only available to those who maintained good grades in high school, and some have an income requirement as well. If an applicant qualifies based on those two criteria, he will have to fill out an application. The most stressful part of the application for many students is the scholarship essay. When there are limited number of scholarships and numerous applicants, it is the essay that often determines which applicants are awarded scholarship interviews, and which are not.

The essay is the place to really shine if you want to have a chance at the scholarship. To do this, use all of the rules you learned in school about writing. If you were not taught good writing skills, take the time to learn some. Take a writing course at a local community center, or read tips online for writing a good essay.

A good scholarship essay always starts with a topic sentence. The topic sentence draws the reader into the information, explains your position on the topic, and shows the point you are going to prove in the essay.

Before you begin writing, outline your points. Then, make sure the essay stays with the outline. You want to prove your point well, but you want to do so in a logical manner. The, conclude the essay with a good summary of your points and a restating of your position on the topic.

If you are granted an interview, dress well. You only have one chance to make an impression on those who might be paying for your college education. Answer the questions well, and be prepared for them to ask personal, thought-provoking questions, such as questions about your best character quality and how you would contribute to the school if you received the award. By being as prepared as possible, you make it more likely that you will receive the scholarship you are seeking.

.

How To Choose The Right Scholarships And School Grants

by by: Cary Bergeron

If college is in your future, yet the ability to pay for it seems out of reach, one of the best options is to get a scholarship. However, applying for and receiving scholarships is not always as cut and dried as you may wish. Here are some tips you can use to help you land a winning scholarship and get the education you desire.

First, start looking for scholarships as soon as possible. Some programs require you to apply even before you are a senior, and many require you to apply early in your senior year. Even if it is too early to apply, knowing the application deadline ahead of time will ensure that you do not miss it.

When filling out the application, read the requirements in full before you begin. These applications take time, and if you do not qualify, you are wasting your time. Once you are sure that you qualify, read the instructions two times. Then, follow them exactly. Any mistakes could cost you a scholarship that you are absolutely qualified to receive. If you have a question, ask, rather than guessing and making a mistake. Talk to the financial aid officer at the college of your choice or the guidance counselor at your high school. Have them proofread the application if they are willing and make sure it is error free.

You want your scholarship application to stand out from the crowd. Make sure it is neat. Mail it neatly as well. Do not wad up the application and stuff it in a business-sized envelope. Keep the pages flat and send them in a large envelope. Consider springing for FedEx delivery or certified mail.

Remember to look in unlikely places for scholarships. Most schools have school-based awards, so talk to the financial aid office to see if you qualify for one of these. Also, there are many businesses and organizations in your local area that will offer scholarships for local kids. These have less competition, making them a great option for those who qualify.

There are also things you can do to put yourself in a good position for receiving a scholarship outside of the application process. The more active you are in your community, the better your chances to qualify for a scholarship. Also, you need to keep your grades up. Most of the best scholarships have some sort of merit component, which means your GPA will be a factor. The better your grades, the better your chances of receiving a scholarship will be.

About The Author
Get more help with funding your education and picking out the right School Grants or Business School Grants at School-Grants.org

http://www.school-grants.org

.

Best Tips for Engineering Studies in the Usa

Engineering is one of the largest professions in the US which employs more than a million people. The popular engineering branches are electrical, computer, mechanical, industrial and chemical. The main question to be answered is that why is engineering such a popular study choice in the states, what sort of students does it attract and what opportunities are available to those who graduate in the states?

The main reason which attracts international students towards engineering careers in the USA is the cutting edge research in various disciplines which is often backed by the industry. Most colleges and universities in the US receive large research grants from the industry and federal government. The availability and excellence of resources and infrastructure for research is second to none. Innovation in the areas of Network Security, VLSI, Aeronautics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Alternative energy, Operations Research etc provides the intellectual stimulation and creative energy to work on the cutting edge of technology.

Graduate Education in Engineering

For admission to graduate programs in engineering, most universities require the applicant to have an undergraduate degree in engineering, math or science. A large number of schools require the candidate to submit

1) An official transcript which provides the academic record

2) Letters of recommendation

3) Statement of Purpose (Indicating academic interests, past achievements, future goals)

4) Score sheet of Test of English as foreign language exam(TOEFL)

5) Score sheet of Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

6) Certificates of merit proving achievements in extra curricular and co-curricular activities

Graduate Students in engineering are bestowed with a Master of Science (MS)/Master of Engineering (MEng) degree at the successful completion of their degree requirements. Most students specialize in the areas of Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical. Universities offer curriculum with a focus on using technology, working in teams, and taking courses in respective disciplines.

Undergraduate degrees in Engineering

US university courses and programs differ greatly from one another in any discipline. However, the admissions process for undergraduate degrees in engineering is similar to other program of study in the US. Usually, you must apply directly to the institution, so visit their website to find more information. Most US colleges and universities require SAT exam results, a personal statement, a transcript, and letters of recommendation. The best way to discover whether a program is right for you is to study its course listings and to think about its faculty. Are they professionals or scholars? Is their work research orientated, professional or academic? Think about what you wish to do after finishing your education and seek programs whose courses and professors will help you to accomplish your goals.

The application process

The application process begins by deciding which engineering discipline to apply in. Start with a broad list of universities and then start the elimination process based on factors like selectivity, ranking, fees, scholarship availability and climate of the region.

---------------

About the Author:

Article Source: ArticlesBase.com - Best Tips for Engineering Studies in the Usa
.
