Good News 22 New Fields of Study Added to STEM OPT Programs in the United States

Students who want to go to college in the United States in the next few years will be happy to hear this. In the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program for international students in the US, 22 new fields are being added.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told the public about this in January 2022. These fields are being added to help non-immigrant students do better in school and to help the US economy and innovation grow. If you want to study in the US, this article will be very helpful because we will list the new courses and talk about how this policy change will help international students.

22 New Fields in STEM

Here is a list of the 22 new STEM fields of study that were added to make more STEM jobs available in the US. Students who want to study in the US can now choose any STEM-related course they want:

Forestry in general
Making and taking care of forest resources
Using the cloud
Science of the climate, science of the earth’s systems, economics, and computer science
Environmental Geosciences
Geography and the study of the environment
Economics with math
Math and Science of the Atmosphere and Oceans
Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Financial Analytics
Data Analytics
Social Sciences
Methodology for Research on Human-Centered Technology Design and Quantitative Methods
General Data Science: Business Analytics, Data Visualization, and General Data Analytics
You can now check if your most-wanted STEM combination is available by choosing one from the list above or those that were available in US universities before.

How will the students benefit from these changes?

With this new policy, non-immigrant students who want to go to school in the United States can now get many benefits. Here are some of the best things about this new policy.

36 Months to Get a Job in Your Field

Under the STEM OPT program, F-1 students who are getting bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees in certain STEM fields can work in the U.S. for up to 36 months. The addition of 22 new fields of study will give international students who want to go to college in the United States more degree options in competitive STEM fields.

Advice from the USCIS Policy Manual

United States Citizenship and Immigration Services policy manuals are also being updated and improved by DHS (USCIS).
USCIS is changing its rules to explain how some STEM graduates and entrepreneurs might qualify as advanced-degree professional non-citizens or non-citizens of exceptional ability under the national interest waiver for employment-based immigrant visa classification.

The new rules explain how to use the program, making it easier for noncitizens with the right skills, like STEM graduates and business owners, to start the process of becoming legal permanent residents in the US.

Students need to be aware of these changes because they improve the chances for international students who want to go to college and work in the US.
